Seventh Grader Max Zager has always taken an interest in helping others. He has been involved in many charitable efforts including travelling to and spending time at Give Kids the World in Orlando where Disney helps realize the dreams of children with severe disabilities.  When an opportunity arose to pick a charitable project for his Hebrew School, Max took the opportunity very seriously.  He really wanted to make a difference in someone's life.  Having known about Abi's Place and having met the Zimmerman family many times over the years, he was curious as to what he could do to help Abi's Place.

Max was informed that Abi's place really needs special chairs that help the kids do something that we take for granted every day.  The chairs would be used to help the children simply sit up.  Each chair costs about $1000 and Abi's Place needs ten of them.  At first the task seemed overwhelming to him and his confidence was shaken. He questioned how a 12 year old could raise $10,000.  He brainstormed with his parents and came up with his own idea to create a silicone "Livestrong" type bracelet with the slogan, "Special Deeds For Special Needs -- Abi's Place" along with a display box that explains the project's objective of raising money for the chairs. Each bracelet would sell for $2 and Max has placed these bracelets and donation jars in several businesses around Coral Springs and Boca Raton.  He has gone weekly to collect the donations and refill the bracelets.

Max had also asked his private school, The North Broward Preparatory School, if he could sponsor an out of uniform day for a $2 donation or be allowed to sell the bracelets at school.   Instead of allowing that, the Middle School Student Government voted to do it's own fundraising to help Max accomplish his goal of helping others.  Max participated in the M&M count fundraiser where for a $1 donation kids could guess how many M&M's were in the jar.  The proceeds are earmarked for Abi's Place and will be presented sometime in January.

Many of the businesses Max had asked to allow a display have donated generously towards the chairs. Max is growing closer daily to accomplishing his goal of truly making a difference in the lives of these extrordinary children.  He has already raised enough for one chair and is continuously working to try to raise more.
