Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe, stimulating learning environment to medically-fragile children with moderate to severe developmental delays. Teachers, therapists, and parents collaborate to develop a personalized education plan to accommodate each child's documented needs in the following areas: language, fine motor, gross motor, social interaction, and self help skills. Each goal is addressed using research-based instructional strategies, proper equipment, and assistive technology. We pride ourselves on fostering unique social interactions, allowing children with special needs to thrive.

Our School
We are excited to share Abi's Place with you and invite you to explore our site to learn more about:
Abi's Place is a 501(c)3 school serving 3-12 year old children with mental and physical disabilities. Upon entry into our program, each child is thoroughly evaluated to identify his strengths and areas of need. This evaluation, along with the parents' desires for their child, helps us to write a Personalized Education Plan (PEP) that contains uniquely-tailored annual goals. Each child is then assigned to a teacher who we feel will best meet his/her needs. One hour each of individualized physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy is provided to our children weekly.
Our school is a fun, energetic place that will embrace your child and your family. Our functional life skills curriculum is based on monthly themes. This allows us to keep learning interesting by introducing new vocabulary, activities, and music each month. The daily schedule, however, remains the same to provide our children with the consistency that allows them to thrive. We use research-based strategies to teach our children, including positive behavioral modification techniques. Our team of professionals collaborates on a daily basis to provide your child with the best possible educational and therapeutic services.
Families are always encouraged to participate, observe and/or volunteer. Danielle Zimmerman, the school's founder, is a parent of a child with special needs and understands the importance of education and independence for your child. We are here for you and your child, and we are eager to make a difference in your lives. We have created a school where children, regardless of the mental and physical disabilities, could Live, Laugh and Learn!
